No-Till System receives international recognition

We are proud and delighted to announce that the No-Till System (SPD) – the foundation of Conservation and Regenerative Agriculture in Brazil – has received Global Technical Recognition from the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) in the field of “Land, Soil, and Water Management for Resilient Agriculture and Food Security.”

This achievement is the result of the partnership between the Brazilian Soil Science Society (SBCS) and the Brazilian Federation of No-Till System (FEBRAPDP). The nomination was initiated by Professor Dr. Lúcia Anjos, SBCS Counselor and member of the ITPS/FAO (Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils of the FAO), representing Brazil until June 2025. The nomination document was prepared by Professor Dr. Marie Bartz (Vice-Coordinator of the SBCS Soil Biology Commission and Secretary Director of FEBRAPDP) and endorsed and signed by Professor Dr. Maria Eugênia Ortiz Escobar, President of SBCS. The text described the central aspects of the No-Till System: its overall impact, effects on land, soil, and water management, geographical reach, beneficiaries of adoption, as well as its scale, replicability, relevance, duration, and required investments.

Dr. Bartz emphasizes:
“This recognition is more than deserved and highlights our agriculture and its history of sustainable and resilient practices, placing it at the forefront of production models to be followed worldwide. As the daughter of the pioneering No-Till farmer in Brazil and Latin America, Herbert Bartz, and a soil scientist by profession, seeing the No-Till System recognized and the people who work for this cause – farmers and scientists – valued is an immense pride.”

The official ceremony will be held on October 15, 2025, at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, in a hybrid format, as part of the celebrations of FAO’s 80th anniversary and the World Food Forum.

This recognition highlights Brazil’s contribution to strengthening Conservation and Regenerative Agriculture and transforming global food systems. It is a collective achievement, the result of the dedication of farmers, researchers, companies, and institutions who together promote soil and water conservation and build more resilient and sustainable agriculture through the No-Till System – a truly Brazilian innovation.
