Between July 28 and August 2, the SBCS held the XXI Brazilian Meeting on Soil and Water Management and Conservation (RBMCSA) on the campus of the Federal University of Viçosa. The theme of the event was “Mountain Agriculture” and it was held in conjunction with the Minas Gerais Soil Science Symposium.

There were more than 300 participants, 211 papers presented, many lectures that excelled in the interdisciplinarity that the theme of “Mountain Agriculture” deserves and, of course, the happy hours that make the best networking for those taking part in an event. The event was organized by the Eastern Regional Branch of the SBCS and was considered excellent by the participants. In addition to the lectures and debates, they also took part in mini-courses, workshops and technical tours of the coffee-growing areas in the Zona da Mata Mineira.

Another novelty at the event was the Challenger, a challenge in which the participating teams had to propose technological solutions for recovering pastures in the Rio Doce basin. The challenge was won by the team led by UFV students Lívia da Cunha Agrizzi (Undergraduate in Geography)

Karin da Costa Ribeiro Ferraz (PhD student in Soils and Plant Nutrition) and Fernanda Zeidan Oliveira (Post-doctoral student in the Forestry Engineering Department).

The theme of the event

In Brazil, mountain farming areas can be found in all regions of the country and the RBMCSA was an important forum for discussing the main problems and the alternatives and strategies that could be used in this area.
