SBCS Secretary General Reinaldo Cantarutti represented the Brazilian Soil Science Society at the event that celebrated the 50th anniversary of Embrapa Solos last week, May 28, in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, along with its historic headquarters. The ceremony made a historical rescue of the Legacy in Soil Science left by the Research Center and its hundreds of partners, as well as present new deliveries to society and reflect on the role of unity in the face of future challenges.
By delivering plaque one highlighting the contribution of the Research Center for the Development of Soil Science in Brazil, Professor Cantratti stressed the historical partnership between SBCs and Embrapa Soils, remembering the emergence of the institution in the same historic building that today houses the Research Center. “The Brazilian Society of Soil Science was born in 1947, in one of the rooms of the Institute of Agricultural Chemistry, with the creation of the Soil Commission. And here was 22 years, before going to Campinas (SP) and then to Viçosa (MG). It is almost 80 years of history of the oldest scientific society in Brazil,” he said.
Daniel Vidal Pérez, head of the Research Center, began the celebrations making a detailed historical rescue of soil science in Brazil and Embrapa Soils, created on May 28, 1975 as a National Soil Survey and Conservation Service (SNLCs), already linked to Embrapa, replaced by the DNAPEA (DNPEA) Pedology and Fertility Division (DNPEA).
Among the news presented, highlighting the new agricultural suit maps of the lands of Brazil and carbon stock in the soils of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the Guardeágua application, the new free distance learning course on ecosystem services and news in the actions of the agroecological zoning of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul
