A meeting was held between the president of SBCS (Brazilian Soil Science Society), Prof. Maria Eugenia O. Escobar, and Prof. Alain Brauman, president of AFES – Association Française pour l’Étude du Sol (French Association for Soil Studies), currently on an academic mission at UFC (Federal University of Ceará), to discuss possibilities for cooperation between SBCS and AFES. 🌍

During the meeting, the organizational structures of both entities were presented, highlighting SBCS’s scientific model, aligned with the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), and AFES’s strong project-based approach.

The discussion revealed several opportunities for international collaboration through initiatives developed by AFES. Among the projects presented were:

🔹 La Fresque du Sol – a collaborative and dynamic tool that uses interactive activities to build a collective understanding of soil functioning, ecosystem services, and the challenges related to soil conservation.

🔹 SoilScape – a project that integrates science, art, and society, promoting participatory experiences to strengthen people’s connection with soil and increase public engagement.

The proposal involves expanding these initiatives to other countries, with interest in adapting them into Portuguese, opening perspectives for a potential partnership with SBCS.

We continue strengthening international connections and expanding dialogue in support of soil science and its connection with society!
