The water cycle is the most important natural process sustaining life on Earth, and soil plays a central role in it. Hydropedology integrates the knowledge of Pedology and Hydrology to understand how soil properties—such as texture, structure, and porosity—control water infiltration, storage, percolation, and runoff generation within watersheds.
This interdisciplinary approach directly contributes to sustainable soil use and management, the conservation of water resources, and the maintenance of perennial streams and rivers.
